Rental FAQ

What is the insurance coverage?

The campervan has a Commercial Automobile Insurance Policy and is ultimately subject to their terms and conditions.
Premiums for public liability coverage are included in all rental rates.

Liability coverage to a maximum of CAD $2 Million for any bodily injury and property damage liability claims provided all terms and conditions have been followed.

Liability coverage has zero deductible.

Collision and comprehensive insurance can be added at the time of booking and will cost accordingly to the package you choose.

What are the insurance exclusions?

The renter is fully liable for any damage to the rental vehicle or third party property if damage was caused by:

  • Negligence;

  • Careless, wilful or reckless driving;
  • Committing hit and run

  • Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs;

  • Drivers not registered on the rental agreement;

  • Using the wrong fuel or wrong fluids;

  • Overheating of the brakes and transmission;

  • Driving into restricted travel areas;

  • Ignoring road signs and height restrictions;

  • Failure to check fluid levels on longer road trips;

Important!

Backpacker’s Loft assumes no liability for injury, loss or damage from the use of the vehicle, the roof top tent and the appliances.

Are there any travel restrictions?

As a rule of thumb: You can travel on all numbered roads and highways. But there are exceptions:

  • Travel into Mexico is prohibited at all times.

  • Travel in Death Valley (California) is prohibited between June 1 and September 30 due to extremely high temperatures which can cause engine related problems (for example air conditioning).

  • Travel on the Dempster Highway is prohibited between September 1 and May 31

  • Travel to Burning Man is prohibited because it is off-roads. A fine of $1,000 will be payable if this restriction is violated.

  • Non-public roads and off-road driving is prohibited at all times; (dunes, beaches, riverbeds, logging roads, dirt trails, etc.)

If the renter travels in a restricted area, the insurance will be void. The renter will be liable for all damages to vehicle and towing charges as well for all additional expenses of a breakdown or accident.

Can I travel to the US?

Yes, you can travel to the US. There is no extra cost.

Can I take the campervan off-road?

No, off-roading is a high risk for the insurance company and therefore the insurance coverage is void if the campervan is driven on logging roads, non-public roads and any unnumbered roads and highways.

The renter will be liable for all damages to vehicle and towing charges as well for all additional expenses of a breakdown or accident.
