Is smoking allowed in the campervan?

No, somoking is strictly prohibited in the campervan. Smoking of any kind will forfeit the entire damage deposit. Please keep the doors closed if you light a campfire beside the campervan. Otherwise smoke will enter the vehicle.

Can I bring my pet?

No, pets are not permitted in the vehicle. A $150 cleaning fee will be charged if there is evidence of an unapproved animal in the vehicle (for example hair).

What are the responsibilities of the renter?

  • The rental vehicle must be dropped off prior to 11 am on the day of the scheduled drop off.

  • The rental vehicle must be dropped off in the same condition as received or a cleaning fee will be charged.

  • The vehicle must be returned with a full fuel tank. Drop-off refueling + a $50 administration fee will be deducted from your security deposit.

  • Before drop off, it is not necessary

    • to wash the exterior of the rental vehicle.

    • to wash the bedding and towels.

  • Failure to clean the interior of the van and equipment (stove, tent, counter, interior seat cushions, dishes) will result in additional cleaning fees taken out of your security deposit. The cleaning fee is $150.

  • If the renter does not return the rental vehicle on time, the renter shall pay a late fee of $200.

  • If the renter does not return the rental vehicle on the day due, the vehicle will be reported stolen and a warrant may be issued for arrest of the renter for unlawful possession of the rental vehicle.

  • The renter is responsible for any fines, road tolls, traffic and parking violations.

  • We reserve the right to charge an administration fee of $25.00 in addition to an unpaid traffic/parking violation.

  • All passengers must use seat belts while vehicle is in motion. No passenger is allowed to travel in the back of the vehicle.

  • The renter is required to use the correct fuel and maintain the proper fluid levels. Failure to do so will result in damages due to the renter’s fault. If the wrong fuel is put into the campervan, the renter will be responsible for the entire damage. The damages can be well over $10,000.

Can I tow a trailer?

No, towing of anything is prohibited at all times.

What if I have a mechanical problem?

  • Repairs up to $50 do not need authorization and will be reimbursed at the time of drop off.

  • For amounts over $50, the renter needs to get authorization prior to the repair. Please call us.

  • If the damage is caused by the renter there will be no reimbursement.

  • Oil changes and oil refills will be reimbursed.

  • Receipts must be provided for reimbursement. No refund without a receipt!

  • If the vehicle is unavailable overnight due to repairs at a repair shop, you will be refunded for that night’s rental.

  • If the vehicle cannot be fixed we will refund the remaining days of the rental agreement.

  • Radio, cruise control, cook stove and refrigerator are not necessary for basic operation of the vehicle and therefore are not considered breakdowns and no refunds are available for repair time to these items.

  • Like with any rental car, Backpacker’s Loft is not responsible for the travel expenses incurred to get a flight home or to the next hotel or a rental station.

What if I have an accident?

  • If an accident or incident occurs, please contact us as soon as possible preferably within 24 hours.

  • Please gather information from the other party (license, insurance, etc.).

  • Please report to the police to get a police file number. Failure to do so, will void the insurance coverage and the renter will be responsible for the cost of all repairs or replacements resulting from damages.

It is the insurer’s company policy, not ours.

How many people can the campervan accommodate?

The campervan has two seatbelts on the front seats. All other seats are removed to make room for the living area. This means the campervan accommodates max. 2 people.

How much luggage fits in the campervan?

The trunk area of the campervan has a built in kitchen galley so there is no storage at all. It is recommendable to travel with a duffle bag or backpack instead of a hard shell suitcase. Then you can store your luggage inside the campervan.

The campervan has no bathroom, right?

Yes, that is right. The campervan has no bathroom facilities but you will be fine because every campground has bathroom facilities. As a backpacker you also should make yourself familiar with the "Leave No Trace Principles" if you intend to camp outside of campgrounds (where legally allowed).
